THE WIZARD OF OZ
Geva Theater, 2023
Director: Zi Alikhan
Choreographer: Phil Colgan
Music Director: Déa Thatcher
“…A feast for the senses, thanks to a whirlwind of color and motion coming from lively choreography by Phil Colgan…If producing “The Wizard of Oz” is like beating a dead horse, this production not only brings that horse back to life, it transforms it into a unicorn with a rainbow tail.”
- Katherine Varga, CITY Magazine

The creative team of The Wizard of Oz at Opening Night at The Geva Theater.

Director Zi Alikhan brought Phil on to help completely reimagine this musical classic into a celebration of LGBTQ+ community and culture, without changing a single word of the original text.
Set at a Drag Queen Story Hour, Dorothy is a young person knowing more is out there for them somewhere "Over the Rainbow", and when violence erupts as the story hour is protested, Dorothy is transported to Oz, a magical explosion of color, love, and beauty where they meet their chosen family and learn what home really means. Munchkinland became a huge Welcome-to-Oz drag show led by Glinda (RuPaul's Drag Race's Rosé), the Scarecrow became a collection of toys a little boy wasn't allowed to play with, and so much more.
